Windows Phone Preview OS Issues
Music apps don´t work any more since 8.1 Preview
Hello, just upgraded to WIn Phone 8.1 Prev. Nearly everything works fine except the music apps. Can start Nokia mix Radio and Microsoft Music (just tried some other apps - same problem) but it freezes when I want to start playing music (on sd - 64GB) Music on WIn Phone 8.0 worked fine. Microsoft Music App gives Code: 80070057
Hello kap1987: Thank you for posting to the forum regarding the issues you are having with music since updating your phone with the 8.1 preview. I personally have had no issues on a Nokia Lumia 1520 and a HTC 8x running the 8.1 preview. The fact that I have not had issues does tell me the issue is not with 8.1 in general but does not mean there was no issue with the update install on your phone. Before we focus on this as a possible cause of your issue I would like to focus a bit on the fact you have an SD card. Neither of the phones I have worked with have an SD card. With that said, I would be interested in how things work if we take the SD card out of the equation. The first thing I would suggest you do is copy the contents of your SD card to a computer. This is something you should be able to do by connecting the phone and copying via File Explorer or you can remove the SD card and copy to the PC via an SD car reader. If you go with the later or after you have performed the former, be sure to follow the safe removal process outlined in this article. Once you have the contents of your SD card copied to the PC, sync at least some of that to your phone storage. I understand you may not have enough space or may not want to store your music on the phone storage but we are doing this as a test and really need to know if you get the same error when your music is stored locally. Once you have copied music directly to the phone, try to play this music via the Xbox Music application and your other music apps. Let us know what you experience. If you do notice that the music plays without issue when the SD card is removed, I would next suggest you reinsert the SD card into the phone and format the card via the process outlined in the above article. Once you have completed this, proceed to sync your music collection back to the SD card. After you have completed this, please try playing your music and let us know what happens. If you keep getting the same error code in Xbox Music, please write us back with the exact word for word error. The message may be more useful then the code as the only references I can find to this error code is related to updates and connection errors. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns. Mark W.
thx for your reply... I just received an update on Nokia Mix Radio and Microsoft Music App today. Nokia does play my Music from SD Card. It is only a bit slow in Performance - about 30 secs to find all my music but plays everything without any noticeable probs - even offline-mix works again. (It only makes a short "crack-sound" when playing the next song on list) Microsoft music app seems to be working a bit better tha before the update today (searching for music in library works a bit faster)... but still doesn´t want to play any music ;) (haven´t tried to put the music on phone only and play... but all my ringtones work fine - they are saved on the phone memory) Errorcode: 80070057 - "This kind of data cannot be played on your device"! (I hope that´s the correct Translation - I´m from Germany ;) PS: I just noticed a day before the app-updates that even my own videos, shot with the phone-cam, weren´t "allowed" to be played. now they are working fine again!
Hello kap1987: Thank you for the follow up. We are happy to hear that things are working better for you. If I understand correctly, you are still having some issues with playing your music. Specifically with the Xbox Music application. The error message you get of ""This kind of data cannot be played on your device"!" seems to indicate the files are not supported. If this is content you have added to the SD card from your personal collection, I would be interested to know what format the files are in. Mark W.
